how did u made it? in pencils first and after that with gouache layers on it? or reverse?

I didn't taken photos of the various stages of this drawing, I show you with that of metallica.
First I slightly trace the outlines with the pencil, then I paint with gouache, which will be the dark zones , finally I cover in first the obscure parts of the head then I blur them to emphasize the sets of lights. Thanks to the texture of the gouache, where graphite hang a little, I can used only pencil 6B.
I don't know if that's clear so there is the stages of the drawing
